Horse?

supernatural_luver asked:

I’m a beginner rider in english and an intermediate in western. i’m looking for a horse that is atleast 15hh and can jump. I would like to show, but all the horses I can find are either green or can’t jump. I would prefer to adopt, but if necessary, I would buy. Does anyone have any websites or anything?

Occassionally on Petfinders.com. Another place to look is in those freebee Horse magazines that you can pick up at the vets and the feedstores. They have a variety of trained horses.

Check your local paper or stables and see if you can sponsor a horse. Sponsoring means you get to ride the horse, etc., but it’s actually owned by someone else. You are sort of “renting” the horse. It’s a great way to get a horse more suited to your needs.

You are asking quite a bit of a horse when you do jump, western, and english, so usually those horses have quite a bit of training invested in them and the best you can do is go to a reputable breeder in your area. But horsecity.com can narrow your search greatly in your area. People from all over the world post there. Adopting such a horse would be a miricle, and buying a horse like that is going to be very pricey

Another good online search engine to find horses for sale is:
    agdirect.com
Also, I would suggest you look at adopting or buying a PMU horse. There are groups that are locally run, and there are national sites that may have links to groups in your area. If you aren’t familiar with PMU, it refers to the industry that kept horses pregnant year-round to harvest their pregnancy urine, which was used in producing female hormone replacements like Premarin. Now that the consensus has totally changed and women aren’t supposed to be taking that drug, the PMU farms are shutting down, thus leaving all of these horses with no place in this world. The number of horses is staggering — not only the pregnant mares, but all of the babies they cranked out year after year. Many horses are being slaughtered, yet many are being saved and prepared for adoption throughout US and Canada.

get added to your local 4-h e-mail list
Or check in the local classifieds paper

If money is not a problem, then you could easily find what you are looking for by buying friom a breeder.

i would try your local tack shops for flyers and talk to the employees. both are good resources for finding exactly what you are looking for. I know the ladies down at my local shops are not only in the horse business but talk to everyone coming in and out of there, they can help put the word out and vice-versa.

You could rescue an animal from slaughter or take it off the track, but you said that you didnt want something green. So, talk to some ridding camps or spca(s) in your area, they will usually have horses for sale of adoption.
